APPRENTICE
Initiation – $463.00: We will invoice you after 2 1/2 months. You need to pay half of the initiation fee of $400.00 plus 3 months dues $63.00. Upon graduating the apprenticeship program, you will be required to pay the remaining $400 to become a journeyman. ($863.00) total initiation fee. Cash, Check, Money Order for initial payment.
Dues – $21.00 per month, due on the 1st of each month. Send a check or money order payable to Laborers’ Local 157, 348 Duanesburg Rd Schenectady NY 12306, along with your Union Book (card). I’ll stamp the back and return it to you. If you are 2 or more months delinquent The International will automatically suspend you.
A 5.25% work assessment is automatically taken out of your weekly paycheck. This is listed on most check stubs as a dues’ deduction.
THIS IN NOT YOUR MONTHLY DUES; YOU NEED TO PAY THEM YOURSELF.
Late fee for suspended members: 8% of the initiation fee ($800.00) which amounts to $64.00 per month for back dues, plus 3 months future dues ($63.00) paid in full.
EXAMPLE: If you are 2 months late you will be suspended without notice, and it will cost you the delinquent fee plus 3 months future dues to become reinstated.

Wages Base Rate– Building: $38.55/ Heavy Highway $41.43 plus $3.90 per hr. annuity.
1st level 0-1000 hrs. = 65% Base Rate 2nd level 1001-2000 hrs. = 70% Base Rate
3rd level 2001-4000 hrs. = 80% Base Rate
Health Benefits – After 500 hours of work (in a 6 month period) you are covered. Save your pay stubs and then contact the benefit office at 374-8872 to inform them. This rule is for initial eligibility only.
Union Meetings – Apprentices must make at least 8 union meetings a year. Meetings are held on the 1st Thursday of each Month at 7:00. Pizza & Soda will be served at 6:00 pm for those who wish to socialize before the meeting. You must be a member to attend.
We urge all members to attend!!
Mandatory Classes – Must complete 175 hours of core skills and 125 hours of related class instruction for a total of 300 hours in order to graduate.
Layoff – You must come in to sign the out of work list to be eligible for work. It must be resigned every 90 days or your name automatically comes off the list.
Poor Performance – 3 discharges for poor performance will result in removal from
referral list for a period of 1 year and advised to solicit his/her own work.
